This drawing is an illustration from the book written and illustrated by Pierre Le-Tan titled Quelques collectionneurs [Some Collectors], published by Flammarion in 2013 and accompani♏ed by an exhibition at the Nicolas Schwed gallery in Paris.

This book, which is one of the few books written by Le-Tan, is dedicated to Toboré, the ‘patient companion of a collector’. Each chapter is devoted to a collector — real, imaginary, or with a slightly modified name — whom the author has supposedly met and whose collection he describes. Le-Tan devotes a chapter to himself and includes illustrationsꦿ of some objects from his own collection.

Pierre Le-Tan had much admiration for Hodgkin, a collector and artist whom he discovered during a visit to the Hazlitt, Gooden & Fox Gallery in London. 🃏Le-Tan added, ‘I often look at Eliot Hodgkin’s little catalogue without ever getting tired of it. For me, it is exemplary. So many collection🗹s have just been amassed through luck or wealth’.

Pierre Le-Tan avait beaucoup d’admiration pour Hodgkin, à la fois pour le collectionneur, mais aussi pour l’artiste qu’il avait découvert lors d’u💟ne visite à la galerie londonienne de Hazlitt, Gooden & Fox. Le-Tan ajoute "Je regarde souvent, sans jamais m’en lasser, le petit catalogue d’Eliot Hodgkin. C’est pour moi un modèle. Tant des collections sont juste des ac𝐆cumulations constituées par le hasard ou la richesse".
