Almost certainly originating from the same sketchbook, these two rapid landscape sketches were surely made by one of the various talented artists working in the Netherlands in the later 16th century, who were greatly influenced by the groundbreaking drawing style of Pieter Bruegel the Elder (1525-1569). Particularly close in handling are some of the foreground details in Bruegel's Mountain Landscape with Ridge and Valley (circa 1552), in Braunschweig1, but taking the sheets in their entirety, the overall approach in these delightful drawings seems closer to that of Jacob Savery (circa 1565-1603).
