Fol. 55v: A Hebrew sonnet, beginning et shaarei zimra le-hipateah, by Pinehas Ashkenazi, in the introduction to the sonnet Pinehas states that he wrote the manusc▨ript at the request of Benjamin Solomon. The humorous piece co♏mplains about the delay in payment of the writer’s fee.


This volume contains poems and songs according to the rite of the Sefardim of Ferrara, which were not included in the printed Mahzors.

Physical Description

55 leaves on paper, 7 ½ x 5 1/8 inches; 190 x 131 mm, written in Italian script in black ink, decorated title page with triumphal arch motif (fol.1r), urn flower planters (fols. 28r, 50r), catchwords, original foliation in ink in Hebrew letters on fols. 1-47, modern foliation in pencil (beginning with title-page); stub with remnant of title-page between fols. 52-53, occasional light staining or soiling. Nineteenth-century brown morocco paneled gilt, floriated cornerpieces, supralibros on upper cover, floriated stamp on lower, marbled endpapers, edges g꧒ilt; a few old tears and scratches to both covers.
