Rolex introduced the first automatic Daytona in 1988, utilizing a heavily modified Zenith El Primero caliber. The high-frequency movement was paced-down to a more ▨manageable 28'800 beats per hour and more than 200 modifications were made to turn the high-quality caliber into a true Rolex tour-de-force. The early examples of ref. 16520 have become increasingly difficult to find, let alone in satisfactory condition.
The p⛄resent “L series” specimen is𒁃 a truly wonderful and most desirable example.
First of all, it features the correct, very rare and sought-after early 4-line dial, omitting the "Officially Certified" script and allowing the dial to breathe. This 4-line configuration is arguably the most elegant configu💫ration of the Reference 16520, but also of any automatic Rolex Daytona. It further features a characteristic of the early production of the “Zenith” Daytona: the famous inverted 6 in the subsidiary dial registering the chronograph hours. The 4-line dial was pr🎀oduced during a year only, making it extremely rare and difficult to find.
Furthermore, what sets further this very example apart of any other “4-line” Daytona is the presence of the 🀅Tiffany & Co signature gracing the dial. Tiffany & Co is undoubtedly the most coveted retailer signature fo🗹r any watch collector. Pieces with this double signature achieve auction records and are hold in the most prestigious private collections. Only a fraction of the watches with the Tiffany&Co double signature are Rolexes, making this lot truly exceptional.
The appearance at a🎃uction of an example in such attractive condition of a yellow gold Zenith Daytona, with a 4-line champagne dial with the Tiffany&Co double signature represents a most exciting opportunity for a serious collector to acquire the very bes🌟t and most exclusive of the automatic Daytona production.
