Timothy Williamson was trained as a goldsmith and produced a number of elaborate watches and clocks for the Chinese market, possibly in collaboration with William Hughes. The Palace Museum in Beijing holds a spectacular musical clock by Timothy Williamson which incorporates an automaton figure of a man dressed in period clothes, most likely made by Jaquet-Droz. The figure writes 8 Chinese characters on a strip of paper with a brush dipped in ink. Also by Williamson and found at the Palace Museum are a pair of highly decorative flower vase clocks. For another watch made by Williamson for the Chinese market, see: Sotheby's London, The Celebration of the English Watch Part IV, 6 July 2017, lot 26. Timothy Williamson is recorded as active in London from c. 1769-88.
