Like his fellow Yorkshireman John Atkinson Grimshaw, Boot appears to have been influenced by the Pether family of painters of nocturnal scenes. He was also a book ilustrator, producing engravings for the London Illustrated News and Art Journal and also wrote Trees and How to Paint Them in 1883.
The Daniel Katz Gallery will donate 100% of the net sale proceeds of this lot, split in equal measure between Refuge (Registered Charity 277424) and Trussell Trust (Registered Charity 1110522).
