8vo (260 x 170 mm). Title-page with engraved vignette of the Arkansas State Seal, extensive index at end; scattered foxing. Con꧂temporary sheep, spine with raised bands in five compartments, 2nd and 4th compartments with morocco labels lettered in gilt, boards ruled and lettered "Return to Secretary of State" in black; front hinge cracked but holding, loss at foot of spine, over♋all rubbed and worn with some stains, endpapers browned especially at edges. Housed in a clamshell box.
An 1876 edition of the complete text of the Arkansas' fiꦡfth and current state constitution, as adopted and ratified in 1874. The 1874 constitution replaced that of 1868, the constitution adopted following the end of the Civil War, and by which Arkansas rejoined the Union. The 1874 document was drafted after Democrats regained control of the state Legislature for the first time since the Civil War. The present copy was from the Arkansas State Library, with the front cover lettered "Return to Secretary of State." In addition to the full text, this edition contains a comprehensive index.
