The constitutional convention to revise Louisiana's original constitution of 1812 met at Jackson, Louisiana, between 5 and 24 August 1844, and continued in New Orleans from 14 January to 16 May 1845. This text contains the proceedings and debates of the 1845 sessions. "Nearly verbatim transcripts in the Proceedings and Debates of Louisiana's 1844–45 convention, which runs to nearly 1,000 pages, allow readers to track the development of almost every constitutional provision" (Colonists, Citizens, Constitutions, p. 118). The revised state constitution, adopted on 14 May 1845, ﷽is included at the end of the text. The debat🤡es are sometimes found bound with the "Official report of the debates in the Louisiana convention," which contains coverage of the August 1844 sessions, but that is not the case here.
