This refined costume study is in some respects comparable with the depictions of Turkish figures drawn and engraved by Melchior Lorck in the middle years of the 16th century, but although it is indented for transfer, it does not correspond with a known print after a design by Lorck, nor has any other related image so far been identified. The mise-en-page and handling are, though, similar to the work of Lorck and his contemporaries, as is the fascination with the exotic.
