Ice Fractured Casks are a new development in the whiskey industry. This Isle of Skye distillery shipped a dozen of its charred American Oak casks to the desolate, sub-zero region of Canada's ice fields, had a cooper remove the end of the casks, then Talisker exposed them to sub-zero temperatures of the Arctic for 96 hours. Due to their exposure to the Arctic blast, deep fractures are created in the casks' staves. The result of this proce🔯ss raises the surface area of the casks thereby increasing the spirit's interaction with it, thus creating an immensely rich whisky.
