Color photograph, 16 x 20 in., SIGNED and INSCRIBED in gold ink by Lunar Module Pilot Charles Duke: "DESCARTES HIGHLANDS / Charlie Duke / Apollo 16 LMP"
This incredible image shows Duke on the lunar surface (EVA-1 at Plum Crater) during the penultimate Apollo mission. When the 36 year old astronaut descended from the Lunar Module into the Descartes Highlands, he became the tenth and youngest person to walk on the Moon, prompting him to exclaim: "Fantastic! Oh, that first foot on the lunar surface is super, Tony!"
