This striking bowl is decorated with the rarely used technique of blowing cobalt-blue through a gauze-covered tube onto a porcelain surface applied with stencils to create a white reserve design. Another bowl of this pattern in the Tsui Museum of Art, Hong Kong, is illustrated in The Tsui Museum of Art, Hong Kong, 1991, pl. 93. See also a related bowl from the Meiyintang Collection, illustrated in Regina Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, vol. 2, London, 1994-2010, no. 842, and sold in these rooms, 4th April 2012, lot 46.
