Few examples of the present model featuring a nesting small bird appear to be recorded. One such example was in the von Pannwitz Collection, Munich, sold, Galerie Helbing, Munich, 24-25 October, 1905, no. 355, pl. LXXII. A further example was in the Engelhard Collection, sold at Christie's New York, 18 March, 2005, lot 38 (part). A variation of the model with a nesting bird and a squirrel was in the C. H. Fischer Collection, Dresden, sold, J. M. Heberle, Cologne, 22-25 October, 1906, no. 455, pl. XXVII. A pair illustrated by Carl Christian Dauterman, The Wrightsman Collection, New York 1970, Volume IV, pp. 34 and 35, no. 10A, B, was sold at Sotheby's Monte Carlo, May 26, 1980, lot. 433
Sotheby's Scientific Research department used noninvasive XRF for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected.
