of slender rectangular form, both lid and base inlaid with blond and dark tortoiseshell within gold cagework chased inside and out with small figures, animals and birds on a sablé ground, within husk and strapwork borders, raised thumbpiece, in modern shagreen case,

8.1 cm., 3 1/4 in. wide

Collection of John Kemeys-Tynte, 9th Baron Wharton (1908-1969)

John Halswell Kemeys-Tynte, 9th Baron Wharton, who was born on 12 January 1908, inherited the title upon the death of his father in 1934. He served as a Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserves throughout the Second World War and in 1967 he married Joanna, daughter of Walter Henry Law-Smith. He died without issue on 11 July 1969 when the title dev🍃olved to his sister, Doroth♉y (1907-1974).
