The rules state the game is played by 2-3 ♓players, the winner being the first person to travel around the world from Portsmouth to London.

The destinations around the world include brief descriptions and sometimes forfeits; Constantinople ("ancient Byzantium, the capital of the Turkish empire"), Rome ("the capital of the Pope's dominions here in Italy; here was the seat of the Roman emperors, and here th🎶e traveller must stay one turn to view its antiquities"), Cairo ("the capital of Egypt. Stay one turn to view the famous pyramids"), Mecca ("the capital of all Arabia. Stay here one turn see the grand Mosque, which is este😼emed the most magnificent structure in the Turkish dominions"), Port Jackson, or Botany Bay [Australia] ("situated on the east coast of New Holland; to this place the convicts are sent from England.
