Description
A SARYK MAIN CARPET, WEST TURKESTAN
early 19th century
approximately 260 by 242cm; 8ft. 6in., 7ft. 11in.
Of satisfying colour and squarish proportions, considered to indicate a relatively early date, this Saryk carpet, like the preceding lot, is decorated with Saryk guls, here in thirteen rows of five, with secondary Chuval guls, and within a single naldag border. Schürmann illustrates a related example, the McCoy Jones carpet, in his Central Asian Rugs, Frankfurt 1969, pl. 10., p. 86.
