A Group of Four Lar🅺ge Sout๊h Arabian Triangular Relief Fragments

circa 1st/2nd Century A.D.


comprising an almost complete triangular relief plaque (broken 🍨in three pieces) depicting💯 a bird picking at a wheat stalk terminating in six ears of grain, a fragment showing a bird pecking at a cluster of berries among foliage (broken in two pieces), a fragment showing a broad-leafed vine bearing fruit, and another carved with a leafy stalk terminating in a cluster of berries.

55 by 101, 84 by 45.5, 56 by 30, and 41 by 39 cm.


said to be from Marib
Antonin Besse (1927-2016) and Christiane Besse (1928-2021), Aden and Paris, acquired in Beihan in May 1966 (recorded for export by the Department of Antiquities, Aden State, in May 1966)
by descent to the present owner
