A HUANGHUALI FIVE-TIERED PICNIC BOX
QING DYNASTY, 18TH – 19TH CENTURY
清十八至十九世紀 黃花梨五撞提盒
of rectangular form composed of five removable tiers and a close-fitting cover, supported on a base of conforming sh🍰ape flanked by spandrels and joined at the top with an angular handle, the cover and trays secured into position by a removable rod inserted beneath the handle

Tiered boxes were used as portable containers for food or for scholar’s objects and may consist of 🃏two or three fitted tiers, an internal tray and a lid supported on a grooved base frame with an overhead handle,🔯 often seen in paintings and prints depicting scholarly life in the Ming Dynasty.
