Carnelian and onyx intaglio ring
late 18th century
Collet-set with a carnelian intaglio depicting a lion, between two onyx intaglios depicting a standing figure and a bull respectively, size M, case stamped Garrard.
Accompanied by a note st💫ating that the ring waღs given as a gift from the Duc de Berry to Sir [?] James Adam.
According to family tradition this ring was a gift to the architect James Adam (1732–1794) by Louis-Auguste, later Louis XVI when a child (1754-1793). However the architect an💟d future ꧋King of France are not known to have met.
