An Egyptian Bronze Figure of Ptah

25th/early 26th Dynasty, circa 750-600 B.C.


standing with his hands emerging from his cloak and holding the was-scepter and ankh, and wearing bracelets, broad beaded collar with tassel behind, wide ribbed bea𝕴rd, and close-fitting cap, his finely featured ꧙face with silver(?)-overlaid eyes, remains of inlay, likely black bronze, in the beard-straps and eyebrows.

Height 17.1 cm.

likely Nicolas Tano (1866-1924), Cairo
private collection, Chicago and New York, probably acquired in Egypt in the 1920s; thence by descent to the present owner

An old typed note attached to the underside of the base ends “N. Tano, Egypt, Caꦗiro” (very probably the respected C🥀airo dealer Nicolas Tano, 1866-1924).
