S otheby’s is delighted to present the Modern & Contemporary Auction, taking place in Cologne. The auction presents important paintings, sculptures and works on paper from the most renowned artists of the 20th and 2𓄧1st centuries.

The auction opens with the outstanding group Luminous Waves of Colour: Property from a Prominent Private Dutch Collection, including෴ works such as a large-scale painting by female artist Katharina Grosse, a dynamic work by𝔉 German artist Walther Stöhrer and an olive-tree branch sculpture by Cobra artist Karel Appel.

The sale is led by a powerful work by Albert Oehlen, which is accompanied byﷺ three extraordinary elegant works of the most renowned artists from the ZERO Group and Nul Group, Günther Uecker, Heinz Mack and Jan Schoonhoven.

Further highlights from the Contemporary section include works by German post-war artists Konrad Klapheck and Günther Förg. The Düsseldorf artist Norbert Kricke, who would have celebrated his 🔜100th birthday this year, is represented by two sculptures that have been in one and the same European private collection for three decades. A special feature to discover are small-scale works by Gerhard Richter and Josef Albers.

The Modern section offers wond𒐪erful expressive paintings, such as works by Alexej von Jawlensky and Walter Dexel or Conrad Felixmüller, accompanied by an exquisite selection of works on paper including works by Hannah Höch, Georg Scholz, Emil Nolde, Lyonel Feininger, Franz Marc and Erich Heckel.
