Since the beginning of his ca𒁃reer at Christie’s in 1982, Mark Hinton has organized exhibitions of Japanese Works of Art with the Ashmolean Museum, Historic Royal Palaces and seve🅠ral English Country Houses including Sherborne Castle in Dorset. He studied Japanese ceramics with Dr. Oliver Impey at the Ashmolean Museum.

He edited the publication of the lacquer collection at Chiddingstone Castle, England, and is Trustee of the Denys Eyre Bower Collection of lacquer at the castle. Mr. Hinton organized the exhibition of lacquer from the B.A.S.F. Museum, Munster, in London. He was an initiator of a landmark auction in 1997, Asian Avant-Garde.

In 2018൩, Mr. Hinton joined Sotheby’s to lead the Fine Japanese Art Department, establishing the first auction dedicated to Japanese Art at Sotheby’s since 2007. With over 25 years of specialist knowledge in Japanese Art, he is uniquely placed to entertain a personal relationship with a wide number of important clients,ꦦ including museums, who are actively looking for Japanese works of art. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
