Catalogue Note
By the early 1920s, Marie Laurencin had established herself as a critically acclaimed portraitist, costume and set designer, moving comfortably amongst the fashionable circles of Paris. Femme Peintre Espagnole (Autoportrait) is a wonderful example of the Laurencin's mature style, of even greater importance as it depicts the artist herself at work.
