Catalogue Note
In a written correspondence, dated December 7, 1974, Edith Greindl, the author of the monograph on Cornelis de Vos, confirmed that the present portrait is an autograph work by the artist. Indeed, the cut of this little girl's dress and delicate lace collar is very similar to that found in other de Vos portraits of young girls, such as those in the Musée Mayer van den Bergh, Antwerp, and the collection of Kojiro Matsukata, Kobe, Japan. Edith Greindl suggests that all three portraits may date to circa 1625, when these costumes were en vogue with Antwerp's patrician class.
