Catalogue Note
The overall composition and the stippled background are typical of van Bossuit's work; although here,꧋ the classical profile and the depth of relief vary somewhat from other published example. This particular subject was carved multiple times and is documented in engravings by Matthus Pool(1670-1732) who wrote the biography of the sculptor in 1727 and reproduced 70 works by van Bossuit taken from original𝓀 drawings by Barent Graat(1628-1709).
