Catalogue Note

This 💛bust is one of a small group of surviving examples of smaller works by Orazio Marinali (Angarano 1643 - Vicenza 1720).

From a family of sculptors originally from Angarano, near Bassano, Orazio Marinali moved to Vicenza around 1666-67, where he founded one of the most acti🎉ve workshops of the time. A characteristic trademark of his work is the fusion between naturalism and classicism. The girl's face, with its pained and melancholy expression, is framed by wavy hair, gathered in plats and a bun, recalling Imperial Roman portraiture.
