Glue relining is firm and stable. paint suface is generally well preserved. there is some thinness at extreme left side of hat and at right side of hat and hair; also some thinness in the browns of jacket at right and left side of shoulder, and in right sleeve. a few very small losses in jacket lower center. ultraviolet light reveals a thick old varnish which is difficult to read through. there is an area of retouching at upper left corner, at middle left background and a few at right background. all of these are on top of the old varnish and there could be older ones underneath, but it is impossible to see. In a gilt wood frame with gadrooning all around and a bead pattern at outer edges.
