Faune et Bacchante was executed by Auguste Rodin when he came to Belgium after the Franco-Prussian war. A terracotta cast of the same work was exhibited by Rodin in Antwerp in 1871, with an alternative title, Triomphe de Satyre. It is an early example of the technique of assemblage that would become so characteristic of his oeuvre: the earlier sculpture Jeune femme et enfant, executed in 1864-65, is integrated into tꦬhis larger composition.
