En 1946, Max Ernst s'installe à Sedona en Arizona. L'artiste décide alors de décorer deux murs extérieurs avec des masques qu'🧸il coule dans le béton afin de briser la sévérité et la continuité des murs. C'est 🔜ce procédé qui a donné leur nom à ces oeuvres qui ont depuis été fondues en bronze.
inscribed 'Max Ernst,' dated '48,' and numbered '4/VI' on the base, with the foundry mark 'MA CAST 91', and inscribed 'K' on the underneath; conceived in cement in 1948 and cast in bronze in an edition of six by the Modern Art Foundry, New York; the present bronze was cast in 1991.
