Catalogue Note

This work was executed in 1906, probably during Picasso's stay in the small village of Gósol in the Pyrenees. It belongs to a group of works on paper that the artist created during this intense period of artistic activity depicting saltimbanques, riders and circus performers. The atmospher🉐e of Gósol provided a refreshing retreat from the rigours of his first period in Paris, and in the ten weeks he spent in the small village Picasso completed at least 7 large pai🦂ntings, alongside countless drawings, watercolours, gouaches and carvings.
