Literature

Koubbeh Palace, situated several kilometres North of downtown Cairo, is a 400 rooms Italian style Palace built b🀅y Mohammed Tewfik, Khedive of Egypt from 1879 to 1892. Koubbeh became the official Royal Family residence in 1917 when King Fouad ascended Egypt's trone. His son, King Farouk, considering the Palace as his private residence, kept there his personal collections, including a vast number of 18th century jewelled snuff boxes, object of vertu, watches, automata and Fabergé. After the fall of the monarchy in 1952, King Farouk's private collections became property of the Republic of Egypt and in 1953 the Government appointed Sotheby's as professional advisers and auctioneers for the dispersal of the collection in a sale that was at the time unrivalled for the variety, number and quality of objects of vertu of English, French, Russian, German and Swiss manufacture.
