Catalogue Note
Double-clips with their versatility became one of the most fashionable forms of jewellery during the 1930s. They could be worn in many different ways; on the lapels of a suit jacket, on the décolleté of a dress, on an evening bag, on a belt or even the rim of a hat. The design of double-clip brooches evolved throughout the decade from very geometrical and perf🌸ectly symmetrical examples of the early 1930s to later asymmetrical pieces. A similar example of a double-clip b𒀰y Van Cleef & Arpels from the 1930s was sold at Sotheby's in Geneva, 17th November 1998, lot 54.
