The largest star is set in the center with a 6.35 ct diamond approximately M-N color and VS-SI clarity, with a detachable brooch mechanism and one pendant hook, marked IIII. The next largest star is set in the center with a 3.95 ct diamond approximately L-M color and VS clarity, with a detachable brooch mechanism marked III. The third largest star is set in the center with a diamond which is approximately 3.55 cts and L-M color and VS clarity, with a detachable brooch mechanism marked II. The 4th largest star is set centered by an old mine-cut diamond approximately .70 ct, I-J color and I clarity, marked with Russian marks for St Petersburg 1890-1908, also with a detachable brooch mechanism marked I. The smallest diamond star is centered with an old mine-cut diamond approximately .80 cts and I-J color and SI-I clarity (slightly chipped), with Russian marks for St Petersburg 1890 - 1908, also with indistinct maker's mark IP, fitted with a detachable brooch mechanism marked VII and V. The last star is set with a cushion-cut medium very slightly brownish red spinel. One nut is missing from the detachable brooch mechanism on the spinel star. This piece is similar in make to the other stars, but probably not part of the original configuration. The additional diamonds in each of the stars are approximately I-L color and predominantly SI-I clarity. All pieces are in good condition overall.

Catalogue Note
Within the collection of stars you will see a scintillation of diamonds, reminding one of the light in the night sky. Often worn in multiples of six, eight or even twelve, the group of stars were used in various ways. Either arranged in hair on top of the chignon, pinned along a neckline, or attached to a tiara for an evening event.
