Description
- André Kertész
- distortion #2A
the photographer's '32 bis Rue du Cotentin, Paris-XV' studio/copyright stamp on the reverse, 1933 (Distortions, unpaginated)
Provenance
Acquired by the present 𒉰owner from M▨ichael Shapiro Gallery, San Francisco, 1988
Condition
This slightly warm-toned early print, on paper with a surface sheen, is in generally very good to excellent condition. There is some wear at the edges, and the corners are bumped and exhibit some tiny emulsion loss.
In raking light, the following are visible: small soft handling creases in the upper central and lower left portions of the print, and tiny deposits of original retouching.
The print is hinged to the mat with rice paper along the top edge of the print. There is a penciled star and a blurred, partially erased number '757' on the reverse of the print, as well as light soiling and a small rust-colored deposit of indeterminate nature, that does not affect the image.
The photographer's '32 bis, Rue du Cotentin, Paris XV' studio stamp was used from 1931 until late 1936, when he moved to New York.
