Description

  • George Bellows
  • A Stag at Sharkey's (M. 46)
  • sheet 570 by 704 mm 22 3/8 by 27 3/4 in
Lithograph, 1917, signed in pencil and titled, from the edition of 99, on heavy wove paper, with wide margins, in good condtion apart from pale light- and time stain, the verso with minor discoloration, framed

Condition

The print is in good condition as catalogued. There is a pale window of light-stain around the image, darkest at the mat opening, and time stain has darkened the sheet edges. The verso is soiled and foxed, but this discoloration is not visible on the recto. The scraped surface of the verso suggests the print was previously laid down or backed, and there is a 7 inch area at the left sheet edge where the paper is slightly buckled (barely visible on the recto) and suggesting previous damp stain.
