Catalogue Note

In a letter dated March 3, 1969, the artist's wife Sally wrote to the current owner stating: "Thank you for the prints of Fall Landscape one of my favorite small Averys. It is so filled with poetry. Yes I do have a large version in my living room, which is more striking, but lacks the poetic feeling of the small one. Fall Landscape was done from a sketch made when we were at the MacDowell Colony in Peterboro, New Hampshire. Milton was not very verbal so I doubt that he said anything in particular about this painting. He was always thinking about the next one."
