Saint John the Baptist is often depicted with the Agnus Dei, or Lamb of God, a symbol which derives from the the fourꦏth gospel: "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, 'Look, the Lamb of God,'" (1:36). He is regarded as the messager of Christ and provides a link between the Old and New Testament.
