These angels were originally part of a the central shrine on a high altar and would have held the crown for the Coronation of the Virgin. Compare the drapery on the angels in the central Coronation group on the high altar in the parish church of Schwabach by the workshop of Michael Wohlgemut dating from 1508 (Schindler et.al.,op.cit., pp. 106-111).
