Condition
General surface abrasions and minor chipping throughout. There are some stable firing cracks. A small piece of drapery on her proper left arm is lacking. The tip of her flowing lock of hair is lacking.
Her neck appears to have been broken and repaired and there seems to have been breaks (well repaired) at both shoulders. There may have been further restoration to lower left drapery area. There is some restoration to her nose and chin but, again, all of this has been expertly done. Her face has been cleaned and a clay slip has been applied to the surface throughout.

Catalogue Note
The modelling of the head and drapery are comparable to a series of busts of saints and the Magdalene in the Franzone Capel of the Church of SS. Vittore e Carlo in Genoa. Although Montagu (op.cit.) notes that the connection 🍬between these busts and Algardi is problemmatic, several undeniably derive from his models.
