The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This painting on canvas has been mounted onto plywood. The paint layer has been cleaned. There are some clearly visible paint losses running around the edges and particularly along the bottom edge on the left side. The figures in the bulk of the main part of the picture seem to be quite healthy. The panel on which this painting is mounted should be removed and the canvas should be properly lined. At this point restoration could be carried out to reveal a well-preserved picture, despite the obvious and rather intimidating losses around the edge.
