Condition
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
This painting requires restoration and a new frame. The canvas has an old lining which has been adhered with wax and which could be improved. The paint layer is dirty and requires restoration. Under ultraviolet light no retouches are clearly visible, but the wings of the flying devil have been retouched and there is retouching on the left edge and around the camel's mouth. One can clearly see abrasion here and there however if this picture were to be properly and completely restored, it would respond very well. The condition of this painting is average yet not in any way unexpected.
