The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This oil on paper looks quite shabby yet it actually is seemingly in very good state. The paper was originally painted free of its panel mounting and there is an original addition of approximately one and a half inches running across the top, which is clearly visible. The panel on which the paper has been mounted is not a sufficient support and very visible bubbles to the paint layer have developed. Cleaning tests have been made in the face and the eyes and the condition appears to be very fresh beneath a considerable dirt layer. However, conservation needs to be seriously engaged upon to resolve the mounting issue.
