Catalogue Note
Loiseau was a frequent traveller in the French countryside, and like Monet sought to capture the different aspects of the same scene under varying conditions. The seasons were of particular interest, providing an endless range of subjects with the changing qualities of light and the transformation of the natural surroundings. Maisons et Arbres sous la neige is a fine example of a winter scene, and showcases Loiseau's particularly skill in using the thick impasto of the paint surface to conjure an impression of the texture of the snowy landscape.
