Colours: Fairly accurate, although the shade of cream is warmer in the original and the pencil lines more pronounced.

Catalogue Note

Damenbrustbild von vorne is part of a series of drawings that were executed as studies for the mysterious and unfinished Portrait of Ria Munch III also referred to as Portrait of a Lady. Although Ria, correctly known as Maria, Munk took her own life in 1911, Gustav Klimt had been contracted by the latter's parent to paint the posthumous portrait of their daughter. This revealed itself to be a difficult exercise for the artist, however the sensitivity of this drawing poignantly captures the young girl's beauty and fragility.
