Condition
The canvas is in good condition. The painting does not have any surface varnish. The paint layers are very dry and opaque. The surface is discolored by a thin film of dirt. The dirt is easily removable with distilled water. The painting was previously restored, mainly on the corners and edges. A few spots of paint loss have been inpainted and a light varnish was applied.

The wood on the frame seems to be in good condition. The structural condition is fairly good. Some evidence of movement in the wood, the joins have separated due to volume changes. On the polychromed areas, there are small losses throughout, abrasion and evidence of overpaint. There is evidence of loose organic dirt as well as black dust and evidence of prior restorations and old inpainting. Five pieces of the frame were re-adhered using PVA. Gesso was applied to fill the losses and the areas where the gesso was applied were then inpainted. Particular care should be taken when handling this object. It is very heavy and fragile.
