REF. 5712 is the continuation of REF. 3712 and was released in October 2006 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the "Nautilus" collection. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time REF. 5712G has appeared auction.

The first Nautilus timepiece to start the collection appeared in 1976 - it was created by the watch designer Gerald Genta. The design of the sporty Nautilus was inspired by the sea vessel and its porthole in particular. Timepieces of those days were traditionally produced from gold, while Nautilus featured steel unconventionally oversized and in a uniquely shaped case. The Nautilus embodies a powerful and casually elegant timekeeping design, an icon of Patek Philippe's Collection.

The daring ergonomic shape is yet again transformed, with the addition of a tapering black strap- a first in the history of the Nautilus. The REF. 5712 evolves to acccomodate the date, moon-phases and power reserve indication in a harmonious balance of form and function.
