Description
- Cartier, London
Designed as a stylized openwork leaf, set in the center with an emerald-cut emerald weighing 5.54 carats, framed by 79 round and single-cut diamonds, 29 baguette diamonds and 1 pear-shaped and 1 lozenge-shaped diamond, altogether weighing approximately 11.25 carats, mounted in platinum, signed Cartier, London.
Condition
The emerald is a medium green color (slightly more bluish than indicated by the catalogue illustration) and is slightly to moderately included. The diamonds are approximately G-H color and VVS-SI clarity. There appears to be a replaced part on the underside of the clip mechanism, which has rusted with age. The brooch clip continues to be in working order and secure when fully closed. Signed Cartier London on the pin bridge. Consignor has an "offer to buy" letter with weights of stones from Cartier, dated June 13, 1988, verifying the piece was originally purchased from the London store in 1949.
