Catalogue Note

Gold boxes were a specialty of the firm of Charles Colins Söhne of Hanau. Charles Colin, described as a medailleur and bijoutier, died on October 29, 1817 but the business continued with his two sons, Esaie and Jacob Charles. Jacob Charles was married in 1811 to Jeanne Anne Thérese Remond, the elder surviving daughter of Jean George Remond, the celebrated Geneva gold box maker, who spent most of his working life in Geneva but maintained business interests in his native Hanau.
