Literature
Founded by Alphonse Fouquet around 1860, the House of Fouquet made significant contributions to the development of French jewellery, producing a number of memorable jewels in styles that evolved with the changing times. In 1895 the family business, located at 35 Avenue de l'Opéra, was taken over by Alphonse's son Georges. Focusing on jewels in the Art Nouveau style, Georges achieved great success at the 1900 Exposition U🐎niverselle in Paris where he collaborated with the Czech-born artist Alphonse Mucha. Georges also commissioned Mucha to create the new Fouquet headquarters at 6 Rue Royale, debuting in 1901. The firm continued to produce Art Nouveau jewels up until about 1914, many designed by or in collaboration with Charles Desrosiers, a former student of Symbolist artist Eugene Grasset. In 1919, Georges' son Jean joined the firm and successfully revived its style🐽, favouring the more abstract, geometric forms of Art Deco.
Mention is made of George Fouquet's contribution to the Pa♈ris Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs in 1925 that included a black enamelled mask and rings of crystal and ivory in the abstract, geometric style that reflected th𒁃e new modernism.
