The painting is in good condition. The canvas is also in good condition and its surface is clear and taut (apart from a very small area on the upper right, which is slightly slack). There are two tiny holes: one on the upper left edge and one on the middle left edge. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals a few spots of retouching: on the tree trunk (dark area) and near the roots. Retouching on the lower right (blue area). Restoration is only visible under ultraviolet light. The paint layers and impastos are mostly intact, apart from paint loss on the upper left and lower right corners, upper left quadrant (near cloud, on the edge), lower left quadrant (yellow area to the left of figure in red and blue) and on the base of the tree (viewer's right). Some cracks are visible on the lower left quadrant (impasto of hanging branch) and upper left (2 impastos; top of tree). There is also slight craquelure on the lower left quadrant but other than that the paint layers are intact and the condition is stable.
